By the way, the AA told me over the phone that - as the bond's withdrawn - they would need paperwork (along with cheque) returned to them by Oct 23rd in order to open a bond. This seems v tight, esp if there's a post strike. Just thought I'd mention it, in case others are at risk of being caught out...

    Delivering mine by hand .....

If the ball had gone in the net it would have been a goal.
If my Auntie had been a man she'd have been my Uncle.
  • Got documents from AA in the post today (no mention of a 'linked' account) and just spoke to the AA on the phone. Now they seem unsure whether I can pay funds in by BACS at all (I was previously told I could) and the list of required documents for proof of ID is the daftest I've seen. They can't give me a final answer re what ID is required or how I can give them my money unless I call them tomorrow (they can't call me). So that's another long phone call, then.

Getting to the point where I'm tempted to just say sod it and go with another bank. I won't get as good a deal, but the AA look like being a real pain to deal with.
  • Got my letter today.

    a) I called to clarify: payment absolutely must be by cheque(s), not transfer.

    b) "will take up to 10 banking days to process your application". Hmmm, wonder if that is "from receipt of cheque".

If I post the cheque today, when do you think I should make the funds available in my current account?

    Leaving aside postal strike considerations!

Just got my forms today (god bless the Royal Mail). I called up to see if AA have moved the deadline (they haven't). When I told him that it was dead in the water, he said I could make a BACs payment, and if I did it today, it should reach them in time to make the deadline (Friday).

(They don't want any further id from me. I used an external linked account (dunno if that makes a difference from an id-verification point of view)).

If anyone fancies having a stab at a BACs transfer apparently the details

    sort: 20-97-78
    acct: 70372609
put your own personalised account number (starting 009...) in the "remarks/reference/roll number..." field
  • They told me this afternoon that a BACS transfer might not reach them in time, so it would need to be sent by CHAPS (well, the first person I spoke to said I couldn't add any funds to the account at all, the second said I could). Ended up just sorting out a cheque and sending special delivery this afternoon (apparently it is guaranteed by tomorrow if posted before the deadline today).

If I were going to need to access the account - and deal with the AA on a regular basis - I'd have given up and gone with another bank long ago :rotfl: As I'm intending to leave money in the bond, though, I hopefully won't have to deal with them much at all.

I posted my additional funds cheque (to add to maturing 1yr FTB) Saturday morning (they said you can't do a transfer..).
The additional funds appeared in the AA account Tuesday & left my Halifags current account this morning (Wednesday).
I wouldn't risk not having the funds in your current account....

You may find my experience interesting,(the second and fourth post down) although mine is only a 2 year bond and as far as i know hasn't closed yet.But if you send money FROM your bank it will get there quicker!
