Currys - Price Promise

Hello,

On Friday I reserved and bought LittleBigPlanet on PS3 in Argos for £7.59. I was hoping to get Currys to price match and give 10% on the difference since they state they match Argos amongst other retail stores. Currys were selling the game for £19.99. So I could have got it for about £6.35 from Currys however they would not honour their policy.

Their excuse was that Argos were doing a clearance (which they werent) and so were not going to price match. I did not want to make a big issue of it and walked out to buy the game from Argos instead. Is there anything I can do to complain about the store not complying with policy? I sent an email to DSG head office but no reply unsurprisingly...

Thanks for reading :)

    You already had the game?

Either way, there is a moral obligation to honour the price match policy, which has no exclusions for clearance items in any case.

The only reason I can think for not matching is if Argos had no stock (not the case here), or if it was an obvious error.

It might be worth contacting Trading Standards as Currys may be guilty of false advertising...

I'd write to Currys customer services and threaten to contact Trading Standards, you might get a voucher for your trouble.

I would imagine Currys are claiming that as it is clearence it isnt readily available for collection.

The website seems to be showing it as out of stock although some stores do have a few copies left for reservation so the price promise depends entirely on your location whether its valid.

It was in stock because I reserved a copy and literally 5 mins after leaving Currys I had a copy from Argos. Thanks for the advice so far. I might re-email DSG to try and get another reply, or send a letter to the complaints service. Just hope the postman strikes don't lose the letter.

Ok Currys price promise says they will match online prices if its available for delivery immediately. It isnt

They also say they will match in store prices if its available locally. How close was the Argos store? Also was it on the shelf? Currys can verify the prices and if they called and Argos said it wasnt at that price then they can decline it. I have checked and the stores that did have it have 1 or 2 copies max - many are sold out.

Quite possible you reserved the game last copy and meant it wasnt available.

...or the store was overspent on discount...

What would Trading Standards have to do with it? It's down to the managers disgression....
Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.

It's clearly advertised in their stores. You can't say we'll match these stores.... include argos and then say nah we don't want to..
