been taxed over half my wages this month!!

Options
I hope this is in the right place, i wasnt sure where to put it.

anyway i am a full time student and work 9 hrs a week in Morrisons.
Over summer i took on a second job for 2 months. At first i got emergency taxed on the second job.
I phoned the tax office and they split my tax code between the 2 jobs, which was fine. Then in my next pay from the 2nd job i got that emergency tax money back.

I left the 2nd job on the 21st of September, phoned the tax office about 2 weeks ago to tell them, and to put all my tax code back to morrisons...with me so far?

Well i got paid from Morrisons on Friday and my wages were just over £300, and i got £213 taxed from that?
Can anyone figure out why i would get taxed so much? I mean would they not see they are taking over half my wages!!!

I cant understand how i could have owed tax though, ive never paid any tax. I work 9 hours a week, and have done for the past two years or so. I get extra hours at Christmas/Summer, but only about 15-20 hours a week for a couple of weeks.
And i was only working 16 hours a week in the second job for 2 months.

I think a similar thing happened to me. It was caused (I was told by an accountant) by a substantial gap between one job and the other because I hadn't registered as unemployed. Apparently this messed up my tax code and they apply some kind of emergency tax calculation which resulted in a substantial hit to the salary of the next job. In the end the money was returned to me a few months later. I hadn't even released I had been overtaxed at the time.

I once had two jobs and I also experienced a split tax code and it seemed to be the hardest most complicated thing to put it back together. I'd recommend calling the tax office again and getting them to talk you through it and make sure there has been no mistake. I hope for your sake there has been.
