Something to be aware of with Amex ...
We got their Platinum Cashback card and have just received our second statement and were puzzled over the amount of cashback we had been credited with - which seemed far too little (we'd bought a couple of plane tickets with it, and a couple of large items). As far as I was aware (and it's what Martin says) this card offers an amazing 5% cashback for the first 3 months, reverting to 1% after that.
However, I think what Martin says, i.e.
"Amex Plat has changed its cashback rates; new top picks depend on how much you spend. You can profit from plastic and earn 5% cashback on all spending for the first three months, up to £2,000"
could be misleading. It's not up to £2,000 cashback earned; it's £2,000 total spend - i.e. the most cashback you can earn at the 5% rate is £100. We've done that in less than 2 months, and our rate has now reverted to 1%.
