Not sure if I'm posting this on the right board, but just wondered do they send you an email?
I keep getting emals from them :Issue: Unreported/Underreported Income (Fraud Application)
Please review your tax statement on HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) website (click on the link below to view details)
I do not, and havent done any work that I am aware that I would need to declare myself. Also don't dare to open the link in case it's a virus.
Any thoughts? Thanks.

Ignore it. If they want you, they will write. Do not open the link.

HMRC definitely contact you by letter when there is something to tell you.
This seems like a new one: many MSE people have recently reported receiving emails "from HMRC" about tax overpayments and bank details. First they hoped to lure people via greed, now they are trying fear.
If you have got an online account, you can always go directly to HMRC's website and see how your account is doing. If not, it is definitely a scam.
Of course, it is tempting to click on the link to see where it goes, but it is unwise!Who having known the diamond will concern himself with glass?

Take a look at the URL the link goes to - it may start hmrc but the rest of the URL is a completely different server.
This is a phishing attack and a warning is on the HRMC website: http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/security/examples.htmAn email from no-reply@hmrc.gov.uk entitled Notice of Underreported Income is currently being circulated. The email links to a fake HMRC website entitled ‘Fraud Application’ and asks that you download and review a tax statement document. The website then opens an executable file on your machine.
The email is not from HMRC. You should be aware that opening executable files (.exe) over the internet can potentially compromise the security on your machine.
HMRC do not issue emails asking for personal details.
Do not visit the website contained within the email or disclose any personal or payment information.
If you receive an email requesting such information, please forward it to phishing@hmrc.gsi.gov.uk and then delete it.0 -
I've had loads of these popping up in my spam filter. The strange thing is none appear to have sent to my e-mail address. Not sure how that works but as they aren't addressed to me I've just deleted them. The fridge is empty, the walls are damp, there's no hot water

No financial institution will ever e-mail you asking for any sensitive information. Ever. Only ever put your l/p information into the site you've navigated to yourself, using the web address you've bookmarked, or is printed on your bank documents. What you'll notice about these fake e-mails is that they always start 'Dear customer' and never use your actual name.:T:T:T

Ignore them.
HMRC will NEVER ask for any personal details via email as its not a secure medium.
There is a fair few new scams going about that weve been made aware of. TBH its scary how good there getting, the grammar and spelling's improving!
Forward them to the phishing email above and let he fraud team investigate.0 -
There are loads of things on google about this and there is a thing on HMRC website about it also. Apparently the reference number has some way of using characters from the e-mail address to try and convince you its real as they are using the fact a lot of people have their name in their e-mail address.0

it looked legitimate - even to the colour of the heading. I entered all sorts of personal details and have spent several hours now contacting the police, HM revenue and customs, cancelling my credit card, etc. I was lucky that I needed to speak to a HMRC advisor and followed the link from the form which led me to the HMRC site.....I had no suspicions until the HMRC advisor heard my story and told me categorically that they do not send stuff like this to your email address. I have also been told that the actual scam is not at present illegal. They are only breaking the law when they use your details illegally!!!!!0
