Brakes discs, wheel bearing and more- question

Hi I've not been a car owner for long, so some guidance on the fairness or lack of on some quotes would be much appreciated, since I basically have no idea. I took my car, a 1999 fiesta, for a service. They said it needed 1 new front wheel bearing (loose) and both front brake discs changed (corrosion). They wanted a little…

Probably not. (Well it might do - all discs tend to rub slightly on the pads as there's nothing to pull the pads back)

What I meant by applying the brakes was that when you do this, it can take up the slack in a worn bearing, so reducing/eliminating the noise.
This is more evident with drum brakes as the brake shoes tends to centalise the wheel.
