Hi,
I'm looking to replace the cheapo (now rusting) chrome number in our bathroom. Should I go stainless steel? Any recommended website retailers? I need one 550mm across which it proving a difficult job!
Any help is much appreciated.
Cheers,
Nick

I think you'll struggle to get a 550, I'd plump for a 600 and make the inch up on either side; easily done unless it's a tiled floor!
As for S/S, no way I could even guess on the cost. Hwo much you being quoted?0 -
Heated towell radiator would have to be wall mounted so is it best to get a wider rad (the pipes are 550 wide so nearest would be 600 or 500)? Seems like basic ladder shaped rads in s/s start from £300...is it worth spending a little bit more?0

there are loads of 550 wide towel radiators on ebay. Don't know about stainless steel though.0

The Chrome rads come in varying degrees of quality. The Chrome plating is rated by it's thickness. If I remember right a it should be quoted in microns, which tells you the thickness of the plating. Needless to say if you a cheapo one, it will be wafer thin chrome plating, it won't last, it rusts and looks awful after a few years.
I doubt you need stainless steel, just a GOOD quality chrome one with a high micron rating. The better ones, which cost £40 or £50 more will often give a decent guarantee on the lifetime of the chrome plating, because they will have a high micron rating and will stand the test of time.
Mine was a decent micron and came with a 10 year guarantee. It will probably do more than double that in truth.0 -
I would recommend an Abacus towel rail from homesupply.co.uk ..stainless steel if you can afford it else chrome or white. Good quality, long guarantees, high outputs all at a reasonable price.
Probably better off altering the pipework to get a 600mm wide one in . We have a white abacus elegance radius (ie. curved) towel rail 600mm wide x 750mm tall. Large bath towels fit just right..any narrower and it would be awkward to hang the folded towels. Having a curved rail makes it easier to hang the towels over it.0 -
I have a s/s Abacus Linea. At the time it was the only model that came in a 300mm width. This manufacturer in particular seems to include sizes other than the more standard ones so you might find something in their ranges to suit.
I got it from ...here....they do a few s/s ones in various sizes. Might be worth a look?Herman - MP for all!
