Wasn"t another little girl Victoria Climbe tortured, beaten and starved to death under the same Social Work dept.I think S.S.is as guilty of failing baby Peter as the two things that killed him are.I am sure others in that dept lost their jobs so it was not just S.S.0

Shoesmith was a convenient scapegoat as was Maria Ward.

Of course you get ranting and frothing from the press and media when Social Services take children into care. It makes you wonder. Social Services cannot win. They really can't.
They were sacrificed to appease the baying mob and to save the politicians from any criticism. Maria Ward had an astonishing caseload. So did Lisa Arthurworrey who dealt with Victoria Climbie.
There will always be parents who kill and harm their children. Scapegoating those who deal with them when the system falls down is symptomatic of the ills of our society."There's no such thing as Macra. Macra do not exist."
"I could play all day in my Green Cathedral".
"The Centuries that divide me shall be undone."
"A dream? Really, Doctor. You'll be consulting the entrails of a sheep next. "0 -
I'm with Lynz on this one. I work in social housing but not frontline. The stories that I hear about would feed the tabloids & J Kyle for years. Ms Shoemith has been a convenient scapegoat for a sizeable chunk of our population that has poor childcare, lifeskills etc but are very adept at pulling the wool over everyones eyes. Its easy to be critical and judgemental, less easy to arrive at solutions that are achievable let alone affordable.0

If Mrs S was so good at her job then she should have highlighted the problems with the system earlier.
Maybe, to some extent, she is the scapegoat - maybe others ought to have gone as well, but sorry, these kids died. These kids would have begged, pleaded, screamed and suffered. Are you seriously saying nobody was to blame???? That nobody should have been held responsible?
Because this system, these systems are set up by somebody and if, as has now been shown, they are seriously flawed, then heads should roll.
Am I the only one, who, had I been in charge, couldn't have slept without hearing these kids beg for help in my nightmares and know I'd failed them?0 -
Suggesting that Sharon Shoesmith should lose her job because of the failings of those several layers below her is like suggesting that Terry Leahy should be sacked because the store in Aberdeen is out of stock of tea bags!
I wonder sometimes what others do for a living.Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0 -
Do you lot have nothing better to do than discuss shoesmiths predicament,
although saying that its obviously something you like doing0 -
Harringay are a waste of time, someone i know works for them, to put a child into local authority care costs them about £1500-£2000 a week, so they would rather the child stay with the parent, she was looking after a little boy whose mum couldnt cope and when the mum visited her son, she was high on drugs, yet they decided to send him back to mum, despite reports being given by the carerAnd yes the lady in the avatar is me

I wonder how forgiving and understanding people would be of S.S. on this thread if it was their child that was let down by the system and murdered.Methinks you would all be baying for S.S.blood.0
