focus, slight fluid leak in drivers footwell???
hi,
i have an 03 focus 1.8 td di. i have noticed a slight leak in the drivers side footwell. only say a teaspoonfull of fluid has leaked onto the rubber mat.
hard to say what colour fluid as mats are dirty.
any ideas what this could be please?
all fluid levels appear to be ok.
someone suggested brake master cylinder - clutch master cylinder or heater matrix.
does my car have a clutch master cylinder? im not sure as theres no fluid reservoir for it.
any helps appreciated on what it could be (most common) ,or what to look out for. as i cant afford a huge bill.
any ideas of costs too?
someone may have had this problem before and know the answer.
update - ive put some kitchen roll under the pedals - when i press clutch i get drops of brake/clutch fluid appearing.
cheers its appreciated.

In my Renault 19, I noticed this happening and quite a strong smell as well. Turned out a connecter on the tube linking the washer fluid reservoir had become disconnected which sourced the spray for the rear screen. Carpets were soaked for days. I don't know where your tube is, but maybe it's split? Just a thought!0

Is this fluid feel oily to the tpuch, or is it more like a water based solution?"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

hard to say really sorry, slighly oily/sticky id say. it doesnt seem to evaporate.
just dont wanna get ripped off. or have a misdiagnosis that doesnt fix it.0 -
Focuses (Foci? or that a bit Alan Partridge....) have a well reported problem of water leaking through then pollen filter as the seal degrades which then leaks into the footwell. Then again, hasn't rained much lately has it?? We had ours changed and never had any water since (also an 03 Tdci).
Might be worth checking first. Not exactly sure how to get to it yourself as we got the garage to change at the same time as a service, £15 as I remember0 -
clutch master cylinder is common thing to go on a Focus0

Does it keep appearing? I'm sure you'd notice a drop in brake/clutch fluid if it does.
Otherwise perhaps it just came from someone's dirty shoes when they got in the car."Now to trolling as a concept. .... it was clutch/brake fluid dropping onto kitchen roll when u pressed clutch pedal. brown coloured fluid.
local ford dealer over the road is doing it now, new clutch master cylinder needed, confirmed faulty/leaking.
£105 for part and £80.50 to fit it, so £185.50 total.
not too bad for main dealer.
thankyou.0
