Hi gang
My TV can't cope with too much white in the picture whenever I play a DVD. This problem doesn't affect reception when watching BBC1, ITV etc only when I play DVD on my machine.
The DVD of the 'Chronicles of Narnia' were a complete write-off on my TV.
Any advice out there?
Thanks in advance.

Try turning down the brightness it may help0

Do you mean the TV picture jumps around and flashes a lot on dvd playback?
If this is what you mean, I used to have this problem. Try getting a quality scart lead. I purchased a gold one from ebay for about a tenner inc p&p and not had the problem sinceDebt at highest - £2,872!
Current Debt - £2,221
Total in savings tin = £21.59 :rotfl:0 -

How is your DVD connected to the TV? Via SCART?
Cycle through the AV options on your TV. Most modern ones support Composite/S-Video/RGB on the SCART. Whichever one displays correctly, that's the format outputed from the DVD player.
If your TV and DVD support RGB on the SCART then buy a fully wired SCART cable from the likes of Richer Sounds, for best playback.0 -
I also thought it may be the scart lead as it was only £1 or so from Asda. I don't think I'll be spending a tenner on it though!0

Any system is only as good as its weakest link - you dont say what equipment you have but a £1 cable is likely to be not much better than bell wire. Given that cabling is the cheapest aspect of a system it seems a bit silly to me to make it the weakest link as it is the most affordable to make it one of the strongest links.
If you are connecting it with Scart then RGB is normally the best picture you can get (you have to make sure that your scart cable is "fully wired" to achieve this though) and make sure that the socket in the TV it is connected to is also RGB enabled.
If your TV and DVD support either HDMI/ DVI or Component (dont mistake this with composite) then these will almost certainly give a better picture than Scart. All posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

Fair answer but the brightness control actually contols black levels. White level is adjusted with the contrast control and if set too high can ruin the picture and possibly even the telly itself!
yorica, as mentioned, a decent scart connected to the RGB input on your telly with the dvd player set to output RGB will probably be the cheapest and most worthwhile improvement you could make. I'm sure either myself or someone else will talk you through the set up if you don't know what you're doing. It won't take long.
Much as I hate Richer Sounds, they will give you a money back guarantee on all cables including scarts if you don't feel they were worthwhile so you have nothing to lose!0
