how long for samsung netbook repair

hi guys,

I bought a samsung nc10 netbook in April and love it. The only problem is today I noticed that my network cable no longer plugs in properly and doesnt lock in. It still works but if i move the netbook at all, it simply falls out. It was fine a month ago when i used it last.
Also one of the speakers has become quite rattly, but im not really bothered about that.
I have looked on the samsung website and it says that the nearest repair centre is 300 miles away!!

Does anyone have any experience with this? any advice would be greatly appreciated as I use it everyday and would be lost without it:confused:

My NC10 developed a crack by the hinge, called Samsung, they asked me to take a few pictured and send email them. Five minutes after I sent the pics, the guy from Samsung called me back and said they'd send a courier to collect the NC10 the next day. A week later same guy brought my repaired NC10 back.

I was very happy with their repair service.

If within 6 months then its for the retailer to prove you damaged it, if not then they should repair/replace free under Sale of Goods Act. What date in April did you buy it and have you contacted them about it?

When the ethernet port on a laptop is broken and its out of warranty you can buy cheap USB Ethernet devices, you plug the network cable into the device (instead of the (broken) ethernet port on the laptop) and plug the device into a USB port, works fine...
  • OP - Could it be the latch on the plug itself? Tried wireless?

That was my immediate thought too. I'd try a different cable first, or the other end of the same cable. Worth a shot.

    hi guys,

    thanks for the replies

its still within the 6 months but I dont want it replaced, just repaired as I have loads of things on it ( is that just stupid?)
I tried 3 different cables and all of them had the same problem but then i tried the other ends and it plugs in ok??

I thionk i will live with the speakers the way they are

    thanks loads for your replies
  • It will be picked up by courier if it qualifies for repair under warranty. Read more here.

Frankly, yes, that is stupid. It's developed 2 faults while still in warranty. No question they will fix it for free if the damage is not down to you. Unlikely they would replace it rather than repair, but just back up your files before they collect (you should have a back up regardless).
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

I had to send my son's Samsung back. It was picked-up on a Tuuesday & returned on the Thursday. Well chuffed with that. Only Sony come close.
