Barclays Card!!!

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could help me to sort my problem out.

Two years ago I used my Barclays Card and without realizing I went over my limit. I do not remember exactly how much it was, but around 50 to 100 pounds. As I left my job, I did not have money to pay it off. After few months my credit was getting bigger. I was trying to pay it off slowly slowly, but because I wasn't paying regularly they were adding "Over Credit Limit Charge" + Interest. The balance became around 450 pounds. Year ago I paid 200 pounds, but now it went back to the same amount, because I did not pay almost anything during last year. This happended, because I started my Uni and I didn't have any money. I rang them yestreday to sattle my account, but they weren't intrested in it. They want from me the full amount, but i do not have this money. The reality is, that whatever I borrow from them, I have already given it back (and even more). I am only paying for intrest and over credit limit charge. I am so upset about it, because I do not know what shall I do. Can anyone tell me how to avoid this payment? Do I have to pay all this money? PLEASE could you help me please? P.S. I am not working at the moment, I am full time student in charity college.

  • If they do not allow you to pay any amount of the balance then the debt is just going to continue to increase - why wouldn't they accept a payment from you? How much were you trying to repay? What can you afford to pay them? What is the outstanding amount?

Have I missed something, where did the OP state that they were spending their grant on alcohol ?

Your reply is harsh, and the OP has every right to negotiate a payment plan with Barclaycard.

OP, to help you further we need to know the following facts :

The current size of the debt to Barclaycard
    The Credit Limit
    The required Minimum Payment
How much can you actually afford to pay each month

From that information, you should be able to put a proposal to Barclaycard to re-structure the debt with a view to clearing it.

    Good Luck.

Thank you so much NickX for your respond.

The informations you asked me for are:

The current size of the debt to Barclaycard: £ 406.37
    The Credit Limit: £ 0.00
The required Minimum Payment: £ 9.20
How much can you actually afford to pay each month: £ 0.00

My situation is very difficult, because I do not have a job and to be honest I fed up of paying for something I have never had. The credit is nothing else but over credit limit charges. I have already closed this account a while ago and two months ago I agreed with someone from Barclays that i will pay £10/month. But the problem is that I haven't found any job yet and I have no money to pay this amount, especially when they adding £12 over credit limit charge + £5.68 interest per month. I wanted to sattled this accound once for forever and I offered them to pay half of my credit (was gonna borrow this money from my friend), but they said no. Perhaps, I am not using proper arguments.
  • If you can't find £9.20 a month?!!?

I would as you need to clear the debt. Haven'y you got a interest free student o/d etc?

Surely you can spare the minimum payment each month from your student loans?

I'm a student without a job and my student loans covers my 3 credit cards, plus putting some into a savings account as well as my living expenses.
