credit card bill blunder!

Can anyone advise me on what to do!! i have just received my monthly credit card bill, i currently have a balance of £1,020 to be paid off... according to this months bill the bank received a payment of £1,120 at the beggining of september .. i am 100 % sure i never made this payment! it also states that i made a payment at the end of september for £20 ..this is true, i did indeed make that payment!.. but overall i am now £120 in credit..i have checked my online banking which say's the same thing and also called up the bank to confirm this is correct..and it is! ... now.. i could sit back with a big smile on my face and do nothing..as it is clearly the bank's mistake ..but i am assuming it will come back and bite me on the bum sooner or later.. should i contact the bank and tell them as i dont want to get in trouble for it and im guessing this is someone else's money...even though it appears to be the banks fault..help!

I would sit and wait....they may realise their mistake but at the same time they may not...
  • You have done the decent thing and told them about it.
It's up to them to do something about it now (IMO they should put it into their suspense account) - keep the money you have to pay the bill in a savings account until it is sorted out.

If it still there after 6 years and 1 day - celebrate!

Yeah I wouldn't start partying just yet. They could realise this is a mistake and recall the money. The money you would have paid each month towards your debt, put it away and don't spend it... if you do, then you'll have something to fall back on if they recall the money.
