Extending length of auction

Hi, I have items on 3 day auction and if they are not bid on by then can I extend to a 5 or 7 day auction before the items end. Are there any time limit restrictions, do I need to do this at least 12 hours before the auction ends.
Tried reading rules on Ebay but?

Never done it myself but apparently you can...I would imagine the stipulation would be more than 12 hours left with no bids received.....and then I think you could change the number of days left perhaps.

This is on the eBay help page;

"Changing the duration of a listing
If you have listed an item and wish to change its duration, you may be able to Revise Your Listing."

I have changed the duration many times. Its as whitey1987 says, no bids and more than 12 hrs remaining. Changing the duration is handy if you think it will keep your item higher up in the listings (on the first few pages)....freddy

What a great idea - I never even gave it a thought that you could extend the length of your auction, although I knew about the 12 hour rule and making amendments to your listing. Whilst many people don't bid until last minute, you do know what sort of interest there is in your item by the number of people watching, so in future no watchers and no bids it is worth extending the length of the auction. Thanks for this.

I had to do this recently. I stupidly forgot to make sure I had nothing finishing while I was away for a couple of days, so had to extend the auctions after they had been running for 3 or 4 days to make sure they closed after I returned.
