Hi Hester,
That's great news and a story I will definitely remember! I am duped by the idea of the more expensive being the best, all the time - and LOVE the M & S food adverts currently on the telly - even though I know I can make something just as nice!
Congratulations to you and your OH! And well done on being debt free!

They are horrible, HORRIBLE damned tasty adverts.
These aren't just any chocolate sponge puddings, these are our finest belgian chocolate puddings with melting oozing gooey delicious middles.

Do me a favour gang! M&S is a bit of a rip off, surely? The same rolls they sell in there as an example "seeded deli rolls" 99p for 4. Identical ones in tesco 59p for 4. Their coffee has an asda foil in ( i'll never forget that) someone found, price differential- massive.
You need to be looking at the great own brand hunt on shop but dont drop. Most of the time theres a few factories, all putting various labels on for various shops on the same products!! If you havent seen it, find it. Its most enlightening.
And come on, most of the things they make in plastic trays are so easy a bloody machine makes them, so get in the kitchen! You can do better yourself!! Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.

I have got very bad myopia and my lenses are prettyy thick, but if you choose a smaller frame the lenses come up much thinner. Thankfully, small frames are all the rage now - when I was younger everyone wore 'Dierdre Langtons' and my lenses stuck out a mile either side of the frame!Official DFW Nerd No 096 - Proud to have dealt with my debt!0

unfortunately I have minus 14 and if I get anything other than the high index 1.8 or 1.9, the edge is so thick even with the smallest frame in the shop. Without the high indec my lenses are 1cm at the edge LOLThere are times when parenthood seems nothing but feeding the mouth that bites you Peter De VriesDebt free by 40 (27/11/2016)0

Slightly off topic (as always), but isn't it the same with everything? We were potless when I was growing up so I never got the snazzy trainers or jeans that the other kids got, and I always thought to myself "when I'm older and have the money, I'm always going to have the best labels".
But that experience has left me unable to understand the mentality of paying 10 times the price for a pair of jeans or trainers just because of the label. It's just something I can't get my head around. I went looking for a pair of jeans a couple of years ago with a "will not spend more than £30" rule. Went into primark and they were on sale for £3. Left with a bag full of jeans that have lasted me years (ok, on one pair the zip fell off!), but it's weird - I don't 'feel' like I'm missing out on anything.
Don't know what I'm trying to say here - just that I sometimes wonder if I'm the weird one because I just don't 'get' the whole label thing? Anyone else feel like that? I don't feel the need to have a Diesel tag hanging off my backside (I'm assuming Diesel is a trendy label because the girl beside me is banging on about how her friend is flogging some for £50 a go.) I don't get it. I think I must have been off school the day the gave that lecture.
I also remember having a discussion with a mate who had just paid big bucks for a watch (I think it was something ridiculous like £500-£600). He told me all the things it could do, how accurate it was, all the timeszones it covered, and how it would be nice to have a 'proper' watch to keep for a long time and maybe hand down to his kids (he was still single at the time).
I asked him what time it was. he told me. I looked at my watch which I got from Argos for £15. It said exactly the same time. I just could not understand the point of paying more than necessary for a watch. Am I rambling?
My only concession would be trainers. I came across a shop in our local arcade which was very no frills - just a cash register and shelves stacked full of shoes. I bought a pair for £6. they fell apart within a fortnight.
Anyhoo, sorry for the ramble. I'm supposed to be going in the gym and am trying to put it off.0
