The one thing I noticed is that "double ovens" are not really double ovens. They are single ovens with a seperate grill, and its difficult to find a reasonably priced 60cm true double oven with a combo grill.

That's often true - if you want a gas oven and grill - it's easier to find double electric ovens.
I write blogs about kitchens ... and I design kitchens for a living ... I just love kitchens!

Double, no question. Worth it just for the Yorkshires!

I'm firmly in the double oven camp and not the built under ones that leave you with back problems type but those in a tower. When it comes to Christmas or having friends around for dinner then to have that second oven even though it's smaller, is much better than having only one.
  • Have a look into the make CDA. They are well priced and good quality. I was speaking to one of their reps yesterday and he was saying that nearly all kitchen apliances are made in the same factory but just renamed. They also offer a 5 year parts and labour guarantee which speaks for itself really.

Erm, no, not at all. Neff, Siemens, Miele, Bosch, AEG (All Germany), Baumatic, Smeg, De Dietrich (All Italy) and a few others make all their own cooking appliances. (I'm not even going to enter into the world of the more designer ranges, like Gaggenau, Kuppersbusch etc)

Cooling and laundry appliances are a little bit different, as the core components are made by certain companies and then supplier specific "bits and pieces" are added afterwards, but again, there are a few exceptions.

I'm not surprised this came from a CDA rep though, as they would sell their own granny if it meant them getting a deal out of it. One I was speaking to last year, told me that their fridges were made in the same factory as Miele's and that it was in China. I could have believed him, if I hadn't just got back from a trip to see Liehberrs factory, who incidentally make all Mieles cooling appliances. I was expecting him to tell me that grass was red next...
If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

  • Thanks very much everyone. You've given me lots to think about and I appreciate it.

All the knocking out is done now, so it's clearer what size/shape kitchen I'm dealing with. I think I am going to have to have a play around with different designs for a bit - I desperately want to fit a double over tower in, but I just can't think of a way to do it. Agh!
  • Maybe your right but I wouldnt have thought the rep would lie. He said the intergrated washing machine was the same as smeg and induction hobs are made by De Dietrich for example. All i was saying was to maybe have a look at CDA. As far as im concerened they are good quality for a good price. what this site is all about wouldnt you say?

  • The rep told me that they tried to get Lieberrs to make fridge frezzers for them but it was to expensive so went with another supplier

  • I have had eight ovens so far, in various houses. The best ones by far have been a Neff and a Rangemaster, in no particular order
