Could do... But I'd still like to find out who is actually responsible, as we're talking about 100ft of hedge here, 9ft high and on a slope!
Seems this is quite a grey area.0 -

It's a grey area at the moment but finding out who owns the hedge and whose land it is on will make it black and white.0 -

it should be on the deeds for the house. If your mum is renting then it is the responibility of the landlordsealed pot challange #572!Garden fund - £0!!:D£0/£10k0 -
We have hedges both sides. One our side of next doors fence (so it is our collection of shrubs in our bed) and one on other side (our boundary).
The boundary hedge gets cut when OH gets time and he goes next door and cuts that side too as he is responsible for its being kept under control. He does it twice a year.0 -
If the hedge turns out to be the neighbours responsibility what do you expect the outcome to be?
What if they planted the privet with the intention of having 9 x 100ft of privacy?0 -

It was already high, (enough so we can't see any of their windows or them any of ours) but now it just looks messy as there are massive branches shooting out of the top of it in some parts. This makes it extra difficult as I can't just use a hedge trimmer or sheers but have to use loppers to get these branches down!0 -

I totally agree with this. either the boundary will belong to one of you or be a shared boundary.according to our council, as you face your property hedges on the left are yours
This doesn't always apply. My FIL tried to tell me this about our house boundaries - thankfully I work for a firm of solicitors and I was able to show him that he was talking tosh! Its something we find a lot of people saying and unfortunatly they are generally wrongCurrently studying for a Diploma - wish me luck
