Tenants are responsible for anything they break or damage, by negligence or accidentally. It doesn't have to be deliberate for them to be responsible for it!0

If it were my tenants , and a genuine accident (and it would be in the case of my tenants) I would claim on my LL's insurance to pay for it. Accidents do happen, and that is why we have insurance. However, this may depend on the tenant... has anything like this happened before?0

I tripped on my way out of the front door once. Arm went straight through the window (ouch). I phoned my landlord, apologised profusely and he offered to pay for the replacement. I should have said yes (in MSE style!) but I said I'd get it replaced as it was my fault. I think that helped cement our relationship as LL/tenant !
