Can I ask Barclaycard to send my debt to a collection agency?

Hi,

Have been paying off my barclaycard debt for years now but due to only being able to meet the minimum payment each month my bill is actually higher than the amount I originally put on it!!

What I'm wondering is would I be able to ask Barclaycard to send my debt to a collection agency? This has already happend with another credit card and I don't mind so much because at least when I pay them I can see my balance reducing. Or is this a terrible idea?

I never use the Barclaycard at all - will never be using another credit card at all and just want to get this little sucker sorted out!!

If anyone can help with any advice I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks!

Are you concerned about the state of your credit file?
    Gone ... or have I?
  • I think my credit file self-combusted a while ago!

I was in the frame of mind that as I already have one collection agency on the go another one wouldn't hurt.

Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong though -I normally am!! xx
  • No they wont they have to follow processes to try and get payment just refuse to pay anything then a debt collector may take a lower payment it depends. Some will do a statement of means and be very reasonable others will phone u 13 times a day and and send letters saying a debt collector will call etc. There is no guarante that a debt collector will be more ameanble than barclay card.

Its up to you also as meantioned it will further dent your credit for 6 years.

Have you tried talking to them?
  • A better option would be for you to call up Barclay Card and ask them to freeze the interest and make an arrangement to pay it off with a certain amount each month. Not ideal and still leaves a blot on your credit file mind.
If you've been meeting the minimum payments each month then don't expect them to help you much though.

Sorry, but why on earth would you want your debt transferred to a DCA ??

I know Barclaycard are not always the most pleasant outfit to deal with, but they are (allegedly) a profession financial institution who adhere to certain codes of conduct.

With a DCA, you are highly likely to see such codes ignored, get multiple threatening phone calls, be sworn at, and told that if you don't pay your debt you will be visited by rather unpleasant men who will take all your belongings and leave you cold and bruised out on the street.

But, if thats what takes your fancy
