Linked addresses on credit report

I have just checked my credit file and have found that now Experian have changed my address (i moved recently)

I still have 21 linked addresses some dated 2002

Two questions should these be removed?

Does it hinder my ability to gain credit having them on there?

As mentioned in another post When Experian altered my report my default from five years ago and my banruptcy from 5.5 years ago disappeared but so have three credit account that were all green zeros

I have since applied for a Vanquis card and been accepted but declined for a MBNA card

Is what i see on Credit Expert what lenders see?

Presumably, you provided this info yourself on previous applications and know why they're there.

The presence of a large number of address links has no effect on your credit history whatsoever. That said, if there is any adverse information connected with those addresses, it will be seen by potential lenders when assessing you.

  • Thanks Moggles

There was some adverse history at one of the addresses that was due to come off in Jan 2010

But that info has now disappeared from my file that i see

Bit contradicting address will show problems yet no problems on files

Lenders see more or less the same data (eg. number of accounts, used and available credit etc. on the day they check your file). Your current providers are not named though. Also searches classified as unrecorded enquiries are there FYI only and are not seen be lenders.

yeh all the unrecorded searches disappeared as well

there were loads from one insurance company that i had only been getting quotes off of

At the moment it only shows one account my contract phone but the little bit off bad stuff on there has gone

Dont know whether to stay schtum run the Vanquis well and see what it looks like in six months/year or try and get the other three good accounts back on there at the risk of the default returning.

Only problem is until Vanquis start reporting my available credit in nil and then probably won't be much more

No experience of Vanquis, but from feedback here, this lender normally reports to Experian and Equifax.

Are the three credit accounts that were all green zeros still open and active?

Obviously, the likelihood that all your creditors have neglected to report to the CRAs can be discounted. It sounds as though some updates have not found their way onto your credit files.

Was your recent MBNA cc application made online? Do you remember whether your address popped up automatically on entering your postcode or whether you had to enter each line manually?

  • No all three accounts were previous ones that were inactive one with Orange one with Capital One cant remember the other one but all had green zeros

On the MBNA application i think i entered the post code and then selected the address from a drop down.

The problem is Experian no matter how hard they try cannot get my new address to fit into their on screen boxes
it keeps chucking it out and they have to input it manually
which now shows as the house name of where i live in the area box
    and other slight inaccuracies
cant see that helping when making applications

Yes, I suspect your address is the nub of your problem. In fact I'd put money on it.

I'd inspect the electoral roll. You can do this at your nearest public library or using a recent polling card if you have one handy.

Pay particular attention to the format of your address. An extra line may be inserted/omitted or the order reversed, where a house name, new build or a block of apartments is involved or where a landlord has converted a house to flats. You'd be surprised how often discrepancies arise. It's not necessarily an error. Very often it comes down to a difference of opinion as to how an address should be formatted rather than an actual mistake.

With luck, the ER and Postal Address Finder formats will match and it'll be purely a question of sticking with that version. Provided that you're consistent when you apply for credit facilities, bank accounts or to the credit reference agencies, you should be okay.

P.S. Don't worry if your address is formatted differently on council tax bills and the like. That's of no consequence, but the electoral roll version counts when applying for credit ;)

    Please keep us posted.

  • Right i'll go and see what the electoral register says

Luckily i work in the same building so thats nice and easy

The problem is Experian they just cannot get the address to fit into their software :-(
