help needed OH may be paid off!

Newbie here and some advice needed. Have had news today that OH may have no job in two weeks time. Would like some advice on anything you feel I could do to try to make things easier for us. Any tips or advice would be great. We have two children and I am on Incapacity Benefit. I have started to stock up on things on offer so that we can spend the least amount possible if things get bad. He will not get any redundancy pay as he works ad hoc!
Thanks for any advice you can give me

What do you mean by ad hoc.

i know what it means literally but can you elaborate please.

Hi folks by ad hoc I mean he works for 2 weeks then not for 2 weeks. He has been employed by the same company for the last 3 years but is technically not employed for the 2 weeks he is at home as he gets no pay.
  • Look out for yellow-stickered reduced items in your supermarket and then stash them in the freezer for another time if they're a good price. It's not moneysaving if you buy something reduced and then throw it away as you didn't eat it. Stash as much as you can in the freezer; portion out meat in freezer bags so meat trays aren't taking up space in your freezer.

Meal plan each week so you're only buying exactly what you need to eat. Don't impulse shop.

These 2 tips alone have cut my shopping bill by half for the 2 of us at home and we still eat really well on a tight budget.

welcome to OS HoneyB! There are loads of threads here that may be of help, all I can suggest is that you check through some of them in the Indexed Collection, in particular you might find the Save zillions on cleaning thread useful, and in the Complete Cooking Collection you'll find threads about cheap recipes etc.

If you dont already, you could do some meal stretching like Rubber Chicken, ie getting as many meals out of a chicken as possible - ie roast, sandwiches, curry or pie, soup and stock.

If you have any specific questions please post and someone will be along to help. :)
... don't throw the string away. You always need string! :D

If he is employed as you say, does he pay tax and ni, if so he is entitled to redundancy pay. Does he have a contract. Just because he gets no pay does not mean he is not employed.

To be honest i would have a word with the CAB or better still ACAS. seems a bit strange, 2 weeks on 2 weeks off. Does he have an original contract.

I do that! Either early in the day or evening is the best to find deals on meat usually. Few weeks ago my local shop had some cheap boneless pork steaks because they were only good til the next day. I bought all 4 packs and took em home and froze em. :D

I also stock up when good offers are on for buy one get one free, etc.
