VW Transporter with Peeling Paint HELP

I leased a VW Sportline Van in November 2007 - 4 months later the paint on the front spoiler started to peel - no problem waranty repair at my local VW garage.
A few weeks later i noticed a stone chip on the bonnet with paint peeling round the edges - visit the local dealer who arranged for an expert from VW to view. Its turns out the whole van has had two coats of paint, as the van came with delivery mileage its assumed this was in the factory. The experts view was that the last coat had not adhered to the first and in fact the entire van required a spray but thought probably we should reject and get a new one! He put selloptape on the bonnet and little pulled the top layer of paint off!! VW customer service argued over this for the last year, saying he didn't have authority to reject the vehicle,we even used solicitors, in the end i gave in and let them re spray a few weeks ago. On going to collect the van we found streaks of lacquer down the sides, paint wrinkled round door locks, hairs under the paint - its a disaster. i've rejected it and left it at the dealer but they seem convinced they are going to try a 'repair' again. The leasing company say its a VW problem... the solicitor we use i away for the next two weeks. I have taken lots of pictures for evidence.
Any advice?????

It sounds like the leasing comapny are correct based on what you have said; it certainly sounds like a VW issue. Presumably that's why they respayed it foc.

If the dealer has made a mess of the respray, the dealer needs to correct it for you.

  • OK, do think i could now say they have had enough chances at 'repair'.
Then reject the vehicle totally and ask for a replacement?

Eh? They've only resprayed it once ... which was with your agreement.

  • I've just managed to reject a late 2008 golf

one of the many many reasons was the shocking paint

Yeah but they've already done the front spoiler last year for the same problem - am i being unreasonable then? ( the front spoiler had peeled again after the re spray last year)
  • Reject it. If its still bad once re-sprayed, reject it again. Keep on rejecting it until it returns in perfect condition.

They'll get sick of you and do the job properly.

    You think?

My 2007 T5 has spent over 100 days in the garage on 19 visits with the same fault. VW will just keep at it until you give up, believe me. Don't bother with the legal route, I've already been "warned" that VW have a building full of Lawyers, just itching for a fight.

The OP like me needs his van on the road, not in the garage again. It's fine to say " just hand the keys back, reject it, sale of goods act etc" That works fine with a kettle or DVD player, but not your work vehicle.

Somebody needs to take a serious look at consumer laws in respect to vehicles, because at the mo they fall in the favour of the manufacturer.

mmmm we lost a fair few days already - 2 days just gone with no vehicle = 2 days lost work, let alone previous days messing about. I can't believe they can carry on like this, its a real joke.
You should see the pictures from the VW respray - paint crinkles round door locks, hairs in the paint lacquer runs down panels. I think its actually worse than when it went in!
  • vw's are sold on marketing only

mine was awful, i also met a few owners day in day out who were having the same problems as me when i had to take it in and out of the dealer, in the end i left it with them and told the mechanics they can take it home

I never trusted the car and used my daughters old car instead of the brand new golf
