EDF mistake

Options
please help, need advice

5 years ago i had 2 meters , one was an economy 7 which i had removed.

edf deleted the wrong meter from their system so had the reading from the removed meter as my existing meter (confused yet).

now everytime they read my present meter it looked like an error so they estimated. when i noticed no actual readings for 5 years i rang edf who updated their system and asked for a reading, then billed me £940

how can i contest this when there is no record of actual meter reading

many thanks for any advice

Ian

You can't unless you have evidence the start reading is wrong. What evidence do you have? Perhaps a copy of a bill from 5 years ago?

Hi Pegasus - From what you say it seems EDF deleted your standard rate meter from their system, then assumed you only used overnight electricity, and billed every Kilowatt you use on the cheap Night Rate tariff.
Well although they are entitled to bill you for the difference in the price of Standard Electricity and ECO 7 Night rate, it's still thier c*ck-up.
So far as the £940 bill is concerned, insist they give you a detailed statement listing what power was used when in the 5 years, and it's price at that time - Then when you both have
agreed a figure, point out that it's taken 5 years for this problem to build up, and that is the amount of time you require to pay it off.
    Good Luck
