If it begins 4508, then you probably won't be able to as that's essentially an electron card (even though the numbers are embossed).
My Barclays debit card starts 4658 which seems to be in the same family as normal visa debits (albeit with no cheque guarantee, but who needs that these days).BR 08/04/09 | ED 02/10/09

I made it through!
Don't ignore a problem. Unlike a bad smell, it won't eventually go away.0 -

Pay at kiosk instead?
it's a pleasant walk....No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......0 -
Ahh yes, I got caught out with that one! Not so funny story really, Had nothing but fresh air in fuel ank, went to Asda to get fuel, big queue, waited anxiously for my turn, got to pump (big queue behind now) and card refused. I didn't know you couldnt use it there. There are no cashier pumps at that particular Asda, so had to limp, even more anxiously to the next station and just made it. I was so scared of card not working again, that I just bought £4 of fuel with change in my purse in case I had made a banking error. Horrible, but now I know!

By the way, you can just ask for a private room, we did it on Friday at Co-op, they did try to fob us off with the comfy chairs at the front but we just said "no", and voila! they found a room!

wonder if it will be a problem as they were a creditor when i went BR[/QUOTE]
Shouldn't be a problem. Barclays are one of two (Co-op t'other) BR friendly banks. My ex OH opened an account with Barclays with no problems and Barclays were one of his biggest creditors in BR and he told them too and still opened an account for him.Debt 30k in 2008.:o Cleared all my debt in 2013 and loving being debt free
Mortgage free since 2014

Thanks Sieve.Thats the same as mine. Nevermind.
May leave some money in Barclays for odd bits like this. So its pay at pump and Tescos online that dont except Electron.....any others that are high profile?0 -
thats weird. I have been extremely impressed with them. Telephone banking is excellent. Care to share what happened?
I am thinking about getting a barclays account as well, just so i can have a full debit card (not coops visa debit electron card)

According to this thread, the Co-op Cashminder debit card now works as a VISA debit now: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=20063030 -
