Postage to France - not arrived

I sent an item on 29 Sept to France. They are saying they haven't revceived it. I have the proof of postage. What should I do? I'm quite new to this ebay lark. Should I just refund and then pursue with Royal Mail or should they make a claim thru ebay (how do they do this?)

Hi
For international postage RM do not consider items lost until 25 days after sending - I would imagine your buyer will not want to wait this long, but you can always ask them.
Ask your buyer if they are willing to wait a bit longer - they may not be aware of the negative impact that RM strikes are having on delivery times.
Otherwise you may have to just refund and make a claim wit RM after the 25 days have passed you can always ask the buyer to repay if it arrives before that..
Keep on friendly terms with you buyer as they may have to assist with yor RM claim.
Hopefully you have an understanding buyer.0 -
Thanks for replying. Had no idea about 25 days. Thanks!
Buyer nice enough but English is slightly broken and my french is worse. Don't think she'll wait that long. I'm tempted to refund to avoid negative score but how do I get her to pay of they do turn up? I'm relying on her honesty I suppose or is the formal ebay thing you can do?0 -
Personally I would ask them to wait a few more says, maybe contact you if it hasn't arrived by Saturday. Reassure them though that you will refund, and in return ask them for their co operation with being patient for a few more days.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. You have no way of ensuring that your buyer will repay you if you have refunded and the item later turns up. You'll just have to rely on their honesty.
You could remind them that they are fully protected by Paypal for up to 45 days and that of course you would not expect them to wait that long for their item, but its just some reassurance for them.
If you're having trouble communicating, there are some transalation sites available on google - but beware - sometimes it does lose something in tranlsation. Send your msg in English and French - hopefully you'll get the meaning through.
If you want - copy the French msg on here and I'll have a look for you. I do apparently have a degree in French but bear in mind it was many years ago and I have not used it since!!0 -
Long shot but if your package included any aerosol products (or anything else 'suspect') this will have been routed surface rather than air mail.
Believe you're covered up to £39 in value for anything that gets lost i.e. unless you paid for a higher insurance value.
Good luck.Make the most of everything in life (especially Avon
