House renovation

Hi,
First post. So please be gentle.
We have bough a 3 bedroom semi with off-peak central central heating. We are going to extend the house into a 5 bedroom house, with gas heating.
The extension might be 2 years away, but I'd like to put some gas central heating in ASAP.
There is no gas currently run to the house. If I get gas run to the house, and terminated in a position which is good for the current layout. Can the gas termination be moved, easily, while the extension is being done, to make it more convienient for the new postion within the extension?
I've been wondering how coslty this could prove to be and whether I should hold out for the gas heating till the extension is underway.
Thanks for any suggestions/ideas.
Neil

This is what I'm asking. Can the outside meter box be moved?
TIA0 -
Yes the box can be moved but it will be costly. Transco do a site survey based on ground type and distance to move, this can be £300 or much more, my DH was quoted £1000 to move his 5m over a concrete path.Debt Free - done
Mortgage Free - done

You want to decide where you have the meter now and not move it again, are you really going be building across the whole of the front of the house?0
