I'm like you EJ I have real difficulty when it comes to beans and pulses - I also am not a fan of pasta (except spaghetti) and I really do not like rice at all.Slimming World - SW 156 - CW 152.5 GW 133 - 19.5 lbs to go

I love pulses, but I have to say, baked beans don't really rock my boat! So 'don't even like baked beans' doesn't mean you can't like pulses. The sauce that is on baked beans isn't always very nice, rather sweet sometimes too.
The quesadilla recipe shown on Economy Gastronomy has become a family favourite in the last few weeks. I have a lovely pan of spicy dal on the stove as I type."Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"

Is it the texture you don't like? If so, you might be best trying something like a bean pate, or mixing red lentils in with meat dishes, which will hide the texture. If you still don't like them like that then you may just have to accept that beans aren't for you - I know my mum can't stand them in any form!Back after a very long break!0

I used to struggle with lentils as I find them hard to digest, until one day I cooked Nigella's sausages & puy lentils....when OH cooks it he follows the recipe - when I cook it I give the lentils another 15-20 minutes to soften, which OH has now admitted is loads nicer! We also often have cassoulet - again, I prefer the haricot beans when they have softened.
Maybe trying them in recipes like that, but giving them a bit longer cooking time will help?0 -
Ok, this is really embarrassing to admit, but I'm a complete "bean-o-phobe" and I need to change my diet to include more wholefoods and such. The problem is that although I love my veggies, I love them raw and hate them cooked, the only cooked veggies I eat are peas and potatoes.
I also don't eat pasta ( I was force fed it at primary school and I can't bring myself to even touch it now) and am allergic to cheese but not other dairy.
I need to follow a lower GI diet because of my PCOS, as I've been following Weight Watchers and, honestly speaking, I can and do use up my daily points allowance on junk , I DO eat healthy low fat foods, but once the good food has been eaten, the rest is junk.
Can anyone recommend any recipes for things that may be easy for my pallette? I bought some red beans and some chick peas today, both tinned.
I'm sorry to sound like a baby, I'm not keen on trying new foods, and it's me that does the cooking, so the family tend to get meals that I like. Meat and veggies, stir fries, fish etc. They only get to eat pasta when I'm working late lol.0 -
Perhaps use beans/pulses in salads with the raw veg you love? My chap does a lovely salad with chopped raw red peppers, chopped fresh tomatoes, basil, and tinned borlotti beans (drained & rinsed) with a bit of olive oil and wine vinegar, salt and pepper.
I'm also keen on chickpea salads for lunch - today's one had grated raw carrot in it, and other raw veg such as celery or cucumber could be shoved in just as easily.
Oh, and do you like hummus? That's not hard to make and could be served as a dip with raw veg crudites.0 -
Mmm the salad sounds lovely, thank you!
Never had hummous before (not at all adventurous I'm afraid), so that's another thing to try.0 -
Would highly recomend hummous, In asda you can buy 3 mini pots so you can try different flavoours, both my dd's love tescos caramalised onion humous really tasty and Nigella did an express red pepper humous recipe!!! Yummy!!
Has gone to play on her own little world for a bit..... but its ok the voices in her head came too so she's not alone0 -
If you prefer raw veggies for example...try a fresh spinach salad topped with chinese (or other flavors that you like) flavored beef, chicken or pork and add your other fav. veg and top it off with a bit of dressing.
