Post Office Counter Staff Undercharged Postage!

My OH posts our items for us. We sell a lot of similar items which sadly are just a tiny bit too big to go as large letter so have to go as packet. Anyway this morning my OH went to the main post office in town and sent 5 items. But the person behind the counter refused to accept they were packets and insited they could go as large letters! When they first changed over to the size charging system we tried on the post office size chart and they would not go through the hole.
Anyway what are the chances of Royal Mail picking up on the fact these don't have enough postage on them? They were all £0.00 postage charge items as well so if the buyers have to pay postage because its been underpaid they aren't going to be happy. Do you think I have a claim agasint the post office if I do have to refund a load of charges to buyers?

Nightmare for you!
It may just happen that the items go through ok but it might be an idea to contact your buyers to advise them of the potential problem and tell them that if they can scan you the card / receipt with additional costs you will reimburse and claim from RM- assuming you have postal receipts.
Did the PO staff just put on stamps or was it a label?
If it turns out the postage was underpaid, I would complain to PO manager with your postage receipts and any info from buyers that they had had to pay extra.
Hopefully you'll be lucky and they'll all go through ok if the items were border-line too big.0 -

No it was a label. They can go through if you squeeze and push but its like a size 18 woman getting into a size 10 dress. It can be done but its probably not a good idea.0
