Opening a new bank account when my job is about to finish?

Hello all,
I am hoping that someone helpful can advise me. . . I am about to move to another city and as such have handed in my notice at my current job, effective from 31st October 09. Due to the new Halifax / BOS overdraft charges, I really need to change to another bank account. Since I will not have a job to start with I was relying on my overdraft to cushion my fall. Please note that I have no intention of sitting round doing nothing, I will be doing everything possible to find a job.
Anyway, I want to change to the Alliance and Leicester account. However, my final month's pay has already gone through the payroll system, so other than tranferring that in I will have no salary to transfer payment into the new account.
Long story short - will I be able to open the new account? While the £100 payment for opening an account would be nice it is not essential, the main thing is to get away from the Reverse-Robin-Hood tactics of Halifax / BOS!!
Cheers

There is no need to have a salary paid into the A+L account but they do require £500 a month credited to the account from an external source otherwise there will be a £5 a month underfunding fee.
Also there is no guarantee that they will offer you an overdraft.0 -

That is a very good point, it did occur to me but I pushed it to the back of my mind. I suppose the only thing to do is apply and see what happens.
Thanks for taking the time to answer, it is much appreciated!
