in Credit cards
lets me start from the top, few months ago i was infromed by my bank that my online banking account had been logged into by someone from Africa but nothing had been took at the time and all my passwords, pins etc was changed i brought a a better firewall softwear bla bla.
But a few weeks ago someone had used my credit card numbers to buy mobile phone top ups so guessing its because of what happend above. Natwest of told me that i will get my money bank and its only £30 and have got a new credit card.
When on the phone to Natwest today they offerd me identity protection for £79 a year and card protection for £39 a year and i'v come to ask is it worth getting as soon as i they told me about it i could't help but think this sound like a con and i should be coverd for these things for free ?
But its really put me off using online banking which i really depend on, what do i do
Thankyou.
Chris

Personally, I wouldn't fork out for insurance.
Most of us can reduce the risk of identity theft by dealing with people face to face rather than over the internet, the principle source of ID theft. If the worst happens, losses are covered by our cc providers. A phone call to customer services is all that's required to report your card lost or stolen. There's usually a dedicated Freefone number for this.
With today's online facilities, it's never been easier to spot fraudulent transactions, should you experience any. That's if your bank's software hasn't detected an abnormal pattern of spending before you do.
IMO, you're better off putting the money you would have spent on insurance premiums into a rainy-day savings account, preferably one of the top-paying savers recommended by our friends on the *savings & investment* board

Thankyou Moggles, Natwest seem to do a good job of spotting anything abnormal with my online banking or credit card and the reason i'm in this mess is that i feel for a spam email that was pretending to be my bank asking for my details which i hate myself for falling for but will not be doing it again as i'm alot more wiser to such scams.0

Unfortunately, these phishing emails are becoming ever more sophisticated, so we all need to be on our guard.
If only the fraudsters would direct their considerable ingenuity at something worthwhile :rolleyes:People who don't know their rights, don't actually have those rights.0 -
they seem to think i'm alot more stupid as i get ones that are pretending to be from banks that i have not got an accounts with.0
