Replacement of faulty goods

Hi all,
Was wondering whether anyone can help... I purchased a child car seat approx 4 months ago, it now has developed a large crack & in my opinion is unsafe.
The manufacturer referred me to the shop I bought the item from, who in turn said they need me to post it to them (although at their expense), to send tot he manufacturer to inspect. On completeion of this inspection, and if they decided it is no fault of mine, they will issue a replacement. This is obviously no good to me as I wont have a car seat for a no. of weeks.
What are my rights & can I do anything about this?
Thanks!!!

Your rights are to have any repairs/inspection completed without causing significant inconvenience to yourself.
What 'significant inconvenience' is is not clearly defined, so it's subjective to say the least. You could try appealing to the retailer's better nature, but that's it for now.Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

If I were you I would contact Consumer Direct. It's not just an inconvenience to be without a car seat for a child. Since it's illegal for the child to be in a car without one, it's bound to have a serious impact on your life. I don't believe the retailer can get away with this. In addition to which, since it's only 4 months old, surely the onus is on the manufacturer to prove that it is NOT faulty. There are very strict standards for car seats and they definitely should not be cracking after 4 months. Consumer Direct may pass this on to Trading Standards.
