Credit Cards abroad

Hi, I have never had a credit card before as have always relied on my graduate account overdraft. I am going abroad for 6 months and was looking into a credit card although I have no idea which one is good for transactions abroad. Also as I have never had one before and only plan to use it for emergency purchases would it be better to get one like the Tesco Credit card with 0% for 12 months?
Thanks
Rachel
Thanks

No, you need to look for card with no charges for using abroad. Best one would be Nationwide or Post Office or Santander Zero.
However as you've never had a credit card before, you might find it difficult to obtain high street credit card. C/card companies score you on your credit history, whether you repay on time, have defaults etc.. so if you never had any debts and prove that you can repay them...
Did you ever had mobile contract, car loan... etc etc??
Who do you bank with? Your bank might be the best for trying to obtain your first card, as as existing customer they will be able to look how you manage your finances in general, not just debt.0 -
Ok thanks I will look into those three, I bank with Nationwide so maybe they might be able to help me out there. Thanks alot for your help. Rach0

I would try first there then. I had no problem with them. It is very usefull card to have for any kind of traveling. I think they also have some 0% period offer on at the minute...
Good luck0
