How to stop dog rolling in it?!!!

Yep,
The worst one was when she rolled in some serious amount of diarrhoea in the woods which covered most of her back and shoulders. I'd taken her there in the car, and I was trying to work out whether to risk letting her get in the footwell with possibly disastrous consequences or whether to just give up, abandon the car and walk the 5 miles home.
So reminds me of my last cocker. We lived in a flat in the city and I used to get bus and Tube to Wimbledon Common to give him a good run out every day.
One day after a tow hour walk in the drizzling rain, i was just heading off the common when a man stopped to ask me about my dog and we stopped for a bit of a chat - and I let my eye off.
Sure as anything - he found the biggest pile of fresh fox poo he could find and he was covered.
There was no way I could take him on public transport so there was no option but to walk the five miles home - and him a nightmare for lead walking
Got in, stripped off my soaking wet clothes, and lifted him straight in the bath to wash him off - and promptly popped my back
So there I was bent over, stark naked and unable to move with a soaking wet stinking dog free to ruin my flat :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
I was actually off work for 5 months after that episode, unable to even lift a kettle or to walk him even
So that poo roll cost me a fortune in dog walking fees0 -
I know i shouldn't laugh - but :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Hope the backs better.0 -
Reading all these replies makes me feel better as fox poo acts like a magnet for my dogs. Oh the stink!!! They even managed to find a decomposing fox in the forest and rolled in it and there were maggots everywhere!!0

Our Collie is 11 years old, and we have had him (or he has had us!) for 9 years. The first time he rolled in Fox Poo he got a telling off and a cold wash down with the hose pipe in the back garden, he has never done it again. He does eat Cow Dung though!Life is too short to drink bad wine!0

Hiya i am writing as recently our 14 month old cross !!!!! who has been spayed has taken a liking to rolling in anything remotely gross, i understand that most dogs like this from time to time, but it is happening on every walk and i'm finding it really hard to handle.
Apart from watching her like a hawk which really spoils the walk i don't know what to do? Just now we have returned from another walk and i watched all of the time apart from one time of less than a minute and she rolled in what can only be described as stinky slime, which stunk to high heavens and was spread all over her coat in a slimey mess...urrggh!
Please has anyone any helpful tips for me, it would be greatly appreciatedThanks Claire.
Welcome to my world
It's fox city around hereThe collie X once rolled in something even more vile and OH is convinced she'd been sprayed by a skunk. It was deeply stomach churning! Only ever happened once though.
Most walks at the moment are ended with a sluicing down with warm soapy water and a thorough rinse. Then a good shake and allowed indoors. Then a thorough roll all over the floor to make sure that's wet too.
Meh - it could be worse
You cannot live as I have lived an not end up like me.
Oi you lot - pleaseGIVE BLOOD
- you never know when you and yours might need it back! 67 pints so far.

Best way of getting rid of smells and stinks of any sort of foul substance they have rolled in (and I have to admit my border collie female is the worst offender for the this - my two german shepard boys so far don't seem to want to roll in the same stuff thank the lord!) is to rinse off the most of the cack in the bath or outside with the garden hose, then to either use tomato ketchup, a tin of chopped tomatos, tomato jusice or passata on them. Rinse off then shampoo as normal. The tomato neutrilises the smell
Cheap and effective!
Thanks for the tomato tip, as after she has abstained from rolling for ages...she decided it was time for some horse dung toilette and we washed her several times in mild soapy water and could not shift the stink.
So i remembered tomatoes...we only had tinned so slapped it on her and worked it into her fur and was amazed at the effect...brilliant advice, passata would be easier to clean up or ketchup but tinned work just as good :T0 -
I have read that if you rub your dog over with the 'packs' smell so a rag kept in the wash bin is best can help this as they do not smell like themselves so they roll in it to smell more like themselves.
I have not tryed this yet as I have only just read it but it might work.0 -
Now I think know why I am cat person. :eek:0

mine is a roller too
i just see the shoulder drop and i scream and run towards her in the desperate attempt to get her to stop...
however, that worked for a while, and now she picks up what she wants to roll in and runs away with it!!! bloody thing is fast as well....
was at work one day and got a lovely text from the dog walker 'hi, just to let you know that amber has rolled in something. I tried to get most of it out, but she might still need a bath when you get home....'
few hours later I realised my bedroom door was left open while i was at work.
came home to find the dog, and the bedroom a bit smelly.... and when she ended up having a proper bath smelled even worse!!0
