I want my money back!

Hi please help!

Basically, a year ago I subscribed by direct debit for a year's membership to a football club (not official) to watch all the goals and interviews etc. I received an email with all the details, and all was fine. However, this year I wanted to stop the subscription, so in august I looked at the email I received this time last year, where it said the email address to send an email to. I did this, but unfortuneatley I got charged this year again.

It was because they changed their email address for cancellations and so I sent an email to the wrong one. Were they supposed to tell me they changed the address??
I know I should have realised in september that I had no confirmation email of cancellation, but that's besides the point!

Thanks! :D

Thanks for your help. Before I want to get to that stage, I was just wondering if they HAVE to tell you if they change their email address - if this is the case, then I can contact them explaining this and probably get my money back.
    Thanks again

Since it sounds like you can prove that you sent your cancellation to the email address you were told to send it to, you have proof that you complied with the t&c you signed up to. They can't argue that they didn't receive the cancellation -- they just lost track of it through their own internal changes. Nothing to do with you. They may not agree, but if they won't refund the money, your bank should do so, as BFG said, under the DD Guarantee. If you write to your bank about it, be sure to include a copy of the cancellation email and if possible a copy of the t&c where you were told to write to that email.
  • I don't trust any company, so although it is only courteous to advise someone that you want to cancel your subscription payments, I would cancel the DD personally from my end, just in case.

I did exactly this with BT: I told them I wanted to cancel my landline, but as soon as the account was settled I also cancelled the direct debit myself just in case. If they did try to collect any more money, they would fail!
