DH bought lardy cake at the weekend. Urgh. I'm plnning our cakes for Christmas party...I always revert to old favourites, but think about doing new things. I also can't decided what to send in to dh's office...last yearI did beautiful little biscuits, I was really proud of them, they were really pretty, it has to be robust for travel, whatever i make.

Wow, you make cakes for dh's office?

I did make a v successful pumpkin and ginger loaf, to use up our pumpkin glut, which OH was going to take in to his, but then we had a bug going round and decided passing it on to his co-workers disguised as cake was probably not kind.

Oh, I adore pumpkin cakes, and pumpkin pie is just one of my favourite things in the world..

Yes, I bake for DH's office (and sometimes my best friend's too!). Also, last year when at home I was baking for people who'd asked, something went wrong, and the thing was off, so the office got the cancelled ''order''.

And your qualifications for dishing out financial advice are????????

Um...don't think I was. I was talking about cake. I'm not aware of any qualifications needed for talking about cake.

Do yu have qualifications for talking about cake? What are they?

After all, if both our saintly Prime Minister AND the Leader of the Opposition can feature on the news because of their opinions on their favourite type of biscuits (re their mumsnet chats) then discussions on cake preferences seems extremely topical. Or should that be Topic-al?

Sorry. I know I'm no mewbie.

Sorry, I forgot that - read about heatwave in Oz.

I suppose there are worse things than grey days.

It's ok. I'm getting used to it now.

Last summer was just horrible as I arrived just as it was getting hot. This year I've acclimatised to it and it's quite nice - the weather gets scorching hot and then a cold change comes though and you get a couple of cooler days before it gets hot again for about a week.

I don't know if I could cope up North where it's 35C all the time and really humid.

    Are you Hamish?

Surely not even Hamish's mother holds the opinion expressed above.
