Quick update: I reset it a couple of days ago (hard reset this time), and that seems to have fixed it. I've still got no idea what was causing the problems though, so expect me to wander back in a few weeks time saying it's back :rolleyes:kwikbreaks wrote: »Are you running torrents or similar on it? Netgear produced a number of DG834G versions based on different chipsets. Not sure about V1 and V2 but the V3 was an abysmal bit of kit on long lines. V4 and later are fine. You'll often see people praising an 834 saying it hangs onto the line with 0dB noise margin. What they don't realise is that with a decent router they'd be syncing faster with a higher noise margin.0

I had a bt router which a friend wanted to borrow and I plugged it in (to power-no other wires)to check that it was working and it appeared on my laptop as a possible internet connection (BRCM_TEST_SSID) favoured over my normal one
Hope that helps:D0 -
Download and install InSSIDer. Works like Netstumbler but works on everything. Will list everything your laptop can pick up. You might find this network is on the same channel as yours.0

Do you use a video-sender to transmit pictures & sound wirelessly from one TV to another?
A while back I had a similar problem and it took me ages to work out that my wireless network was being drowned out by the signal from the video sender. The wireless network was unreliable, and trying to change the router settings caused it to crash and reset itself. A strange SSID similar to the one you mention also appeared in NetStumbler.
Unfortunately, the only way I've been able to get round this is to disable the wireless network if I want to use the video sender (this also removes interference from the TV picture).
Hope this helps...0 -

This is probably the most useful information I have gotten off the web in a long time. And i have got a lot of useful information from the web!
I am registering solely just to give my thanks.
I had a video sender upstairs and I believe that turning that off has resolved my problems.
Again much appreciated! :j :j0 -
Fantastic! There was hardly any info about the issue on the web when I ran in to problems (amazing considering the number of people who must have a video-sender and wi-fi network nearby).
I knew the info would come in handy to someone! Thanks for your feedback and welcome to MSE!0
