I had put a buy it now on the auction and put in my preferances that I only ship to the UK, luckily I had set my preferances to `do not accept bids from bidders outside preferred shipping destination` thingy !!

So they may have tried to press the buy it now option and it wouldn`t allow him

I remember the guy who had sold a laptop and found out half way through the transaction about the scam and sent him a a4 lever file with keyboard keys on it and a mirror for the screen.. hilarious !

Honest nigerians are as rare as hens teeth, hell if you could find one he/she would be worth a few quid on ebay as ultra-rare collectors item
It isn't that honest Nigerians are rare, it's just honest Nigerians bidding on expensive items on ebay that are hard to find.

I would warn others not to give their home address to any of the nigerian bidders as most if not all of them are very dangerous people i.e. murderers and drug dealers and they have people working for them in most parts of the world.

If you want to know more about the scammers try this site

I appreciate what your saying but my experience has shown me there is no such thing as an honest nigerian, of course I live for the day when I'll meet one and I dont prejudge when I do meet people but to date ive got a 100% record of coming into contact with dodgy people and items coming from Nigeria

lol. a while ago i received a spate of emails saying soemone had died and left a lot of money and the executors needed a western account and if i was prepared to allow my acount to be used by them i'd get a fat share of a few million dollars... or something of the sort anyway.

are there really people out there who fall for this sort of thing?

They highlighted a similar scam on rogue traders or some program like that. They went along with the scam and ended up arranging a meeting in amsterdam with the nigerians. It was so funny, they just had to do a hand over of some cash but pretended it was hidden in the park. Ended up looking for the spot where they pretended to hide the money for hours until they gave up.. it was soo funny... Dangerous people though I agree, I wouldn't mess with them..
  • I have been working with a Nigerian (from Lagos) and with his help he has composed an email message to tell these people to "go away" in their language (They apparently have 3 tribal languages but use a form of pigeon to communicate) this is written in "pigeon" to indicate that you are trying to rip off a brother scammer.

NA WAOOO ...I BOW FOR ALL OF UNA OO MAKE U NA FREE ME MAKE I DEY CHOP MY OWN UNA JUST DEY BOMB ME,BOMB ME.WELL CONTINUE TO DEY WASTE YOUR TIME FOR MY SIDE MAKE UNA TRY ANOTHER SIDE .

I know it looks daft but lets see if it works!!!!!!!

I do still know the guy and he is straight, he says most of the scammers are university kids working from Europe and trying to get rich quick.

I had this problem. I put up my son's gameboy on Buy it Now, have always said I only ship to UK. Had an email saying it had been bought, then something about tell us how much and the money will be shipped from some strange company to your paypal account. I just replied "Sorry, you can use my Paypal acccount through the ebay website, and I don't ship outside UK" Never heard another thing, but it cost me again to list it. Was extremely cross!
