Does a gym membership have a cooling off period?

Hello, Please can anybody offer some valuable advice for me. My son has just just signed up on a 1yrs membership with FX lesire and he only 18yrs old so therefore an adult but I am a little concered of the commitment he has given due to the fact that he has only been in employment for 4wks and worreid about him maintaining the repayments every month. I have asked the gym if it can be changed to a flexible contract where he isn't in a tied in and would opt for the flexible membership instead where he would only have to give 1mths notice to cancel if required however they said that that is not possible and once signed up thats it for 1yr. Bearing in mind I asked this question within 24hrs of him signing up.
If anyone out there could help it would be much appreciated.
Look forward to receiving some advice.

He's 18 years old for goodness sake, (an adult) if he is happy with the gym and wants to go then personaly I think you should stop molly codling him and let him make his own decisions!!! might even be an incentive to stick in at his job and do well as he is commited to paying for thngs...0 -
Oh dear, well,I know this won't help-but now is a good time to explain to him that a legal contract is binding-I hope you don't bale him out if his financial circumstances change. At least it is a contructive use of his money .0

You might also like to get him to read the contract he has signed. There is a very good chance that it is a recurring contract and if he wishes to leave he has to give notice a specified time before the 12 months is up or they automatically renew"The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts."

Amisto, I agree with everything you've said its not me its him thats changed his mind I told him they same thing you said so we are agreed on that one!!
Omist, I will have a glance through that to make sure it doesnt and if so will be on the ball to make advise him to make a decision at the time.
So I guess from these comments he's stuck with it then!! Well i guess he made his bed he 's gonna have to lie in it and take responsiblity for his own decisions.

LOL, kids, don't ya just love em??!! ah well, hope he uses the gym and gets his moneysworth out of it, you never know, after going for a while he might really enjoy it and be glad he joined. Maybe in future he will learn to think things through properly before getting tied into something for a year!0
