Well done Chaya ! Well done Tigerlily!
I too thought the worst had happened and was reading with my heart in my mouth as I loved hearing how well you were doing when you adopted Chaya!Decluttering, 20 mins / day Jan 2024 2/20 -
Well done! :T I'm sure you & Chaya will give Staffy's some much needed positive press.
What sort of things do they test on the PAT assessment?0 -

Thank you, it seems I'm not the only one who thought the worst

There we go, sorry to have worried anyone, she may be illness prone but is fairly healthy & well!
They test to be sure that the dog is safe & can cope with situations like being grabbed & maybe something being dropped like a walking stick, some things we were tested on were the initial greeting Chaya gave to the assessor, she had to be calm & not jump up. She then had to walk nicely on the lead with no pulling, sit or stand while I had a conversation with someone without me having to ask her to stay close, they threw a charity collection box on the floor near her where she couldn't see it & she totally ignored it, that was to replicate if someone dropped a stick near her to be sure she wouldn't react through fear . . .
She had to let me groom her all over without jumping up or mouthing at me, let the assessor touch her including ears & tail (Quite firmly), then I had to grab her quick & lift her away (Some dementia patients can grab at the dog so in case she needed to be moved for her safety fast) & she was like humm what's that?
We were in a pet shop & next to the amazon grey parrot & other parrots too, she just looked at them, one kept saying hi! She had to take treats nicely without grabbing at them or her teeth touching the assessor, then some things were that the assessor had to make sure she was healthy & her breath didn't smell & that she was well groomed.
I think there was more but she got top marks on all but walking nicely on a lead, there was three options for that & she got the middle one which was pulls but only a little (That was on the way to the pet shop & it was chucking it down so she wanted to get in! I didn't feel any pressure on the lead tho she just walks at the end of it!)
Anyway, now I get to go on a buddy visit with a lady & her dog who are volunteers so I can see what to do, if I get matched to the lady I should be matched too (If she agrees) then it's at a hospice, but for my visits one place i'm going to try to get signed up is the mental health unit i'm a patient of as I want her to help others like me (She's helped me tons!)
For the buddy visit Chaya won't be going, luckily as she hates other dogs!0 -
How exciting - it all sounds good - keep us updated!!
We do need piccies of Chaya in her PAT dog gear when she gets it tho! :-)0 -
