in Techie Stuff
hi we have just bought a sat nav , the tom tom xl live from currys .
we have taken it home and registered it online and all the stuff you do on the computer (sorry i am not very techy minded !!)
now whenever it is navigating , it goes into a sort of demo mode , you know like when you have a new pc and it goes through all the things you can do on it. you can't see the maps while this is going on unless you touch the screen first.
does anyone know how to get rid of this or disable it ???
or is it a fault that needs rectifying ??
i am baffled and have been through virtually every option you can think of , but it will not go away !!
any advice appreciated,
louise.

I think you have to do a reset (to defaults) to get it out of demo mode - otherwise it will go forever - turning off won't make any difference.0

I think you reset the XL by turning it on and keeping the power button held till it shuts down and starts again. But that should be in the manual.
Either that or stick a pin in a hole underneath it.Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
Now 20% cooler0 -
thankyou both , we have tried all the suggestions above but with no luck
any other ideas welcome as it is getting us both vexed !!!!
thanks again,

If you have tried the reset, (by pushing a paper clip into the reset hole until you hear a click), and there are no instructions to remove it, then I would go back to Currys - I don't think it should have been sold to you like that.
Was it new (and sealed) or was it a display (demo) model.0 -
Think you have bought a ex demo model ,you can upload an app for it to go into demo mode after 3 minutes of not using it
Personally i would take it back

Reset will >not< work
I had a headache and a half trying to fix this issue and just couldn't do it - until...a breakthrough!
There is a folder in your tomtom directory structure that you need to get rid off
From memory, the folder is called script
If you see that, either rename it or delete it- it won't harm the tomtom and it is not a warraty void type action either.
Give me a shout if you have issues and I'll go back to my "knowledge base" articles to dig out how I fixed this for the customer0 -
AJ ..its in that link i postedHave a nice day0
