Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
Windows could be corrupt or the hard drive could be slightly dead. Can you press F8 when booting and start in safe-mode?

    Is this windows 98?

Try going into safe mode (F8) at boot.

If you can get into safemode with command prompt, try edit c:\config.sys

and add rem to the beginning of the double buffer line.

if you can get into safe mode, try scandisk on c:
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?

you press f8 when it says starting windows. hold it down for a second or two

if you hit a, r, or f , does anything happen.

Most likely the hard disk is dying. You may be able to get it to boot by ignoring the error, but odds are you'll need to reformat the disk and reinstall the operating system, or get a new hard disk.
