What are the downsides? I can't really see any other than the fact at the end of the 2/3 years you don't have an asset to sell.

I've found a car i really like for about £159 p/m for a 3+23 month deal. equalling a total of £4134 for the 2 years which must be equal to or better than the depreciation of a £17000 car over that same time? So it seems to work out well.

Am i missing something obvious here?
No not missing anything there really - there are loads of good deals out there and I don't understand why more people don't lease... if you need a car check out Northumbria Car Brokers - don't let the website fool you they do great deals and can get a car delivered anywhere - Ask for Ken
The whole world is a circus - don't be the clown!

I can find the car new for £12,600 without trying. So your not looking quite as good. Do your sums carefully.

I'd say you'd struggle to sell it on after three years for more than £8600, so £4K to drive one for that time, sounds quite good.

Also nissan dont do £5K discounts so there may well be a specification difference between what you've found and the one the O/P is looking at (or the one you've found is an import)

I might lease but I'm fussy about my cars!

To get the best out of leasing you can't afford to be fussy. If you are fussy it will probably be more expensive.

Seems to be the same spec. I did however have to go back and check as the link I used was about 3 months old. But the price seemed good on further inspection.

I wasn't saying lease was not the option but it will be a lot closer than I originally thought on OP's first figures. Interestingly I sorted a lease out for my MIL last year and it was a very close call between leasing and buying, but the dealer wouldn't give me an APR figure quote:-"we don't work on APR") and was tight on his trade in value (and couldn't seem to careless) so that swung it in favour of the lease.

OP remember the VED is normally included with a lease so remember to factor that in.
