I thought of this thread and it made me laugh.
Should I put in a written complaint or should I just shrug it off? I guess in life people are bound to be rude at some point. I think I will be the better person and shrug it off.
all down to the circumstances - I think the issue here is the OP being embarrassed in front of other people
Im not sure I would have written a letter, (perfectly ok to do that though) but I personally wouldn't shrug it off entirely either, in doing so could give the wrong impression that the behaviour is acceptable and encourage it to get worse.0 -
BTW, I'm not saying that writing a letter was wrong. The mistake was in thinking that a letter can be kept 'informal'. It's there. It's on file. It can't be shredded and forgotten just like that.
By all means keep an account of what's happened if something upsets you a great deal. Just don't send it to your manager and expect it to be treated informally.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -

But my feelings were hurt and I was shown up in front of other people.
Dont worry, I just dusted myself down and got on with things. Part of life is people being rude etc; When dealing with the CSA its important to note that it is commonly accepted as unfit for purpose, and by default this also means the staff are unfit for purpose.0 -
BD there are ways to speak to people and I'm sorry but if your a rude arrogant t!t then expect to be spoken to like that back. (Not implying thats what you are though you are from Edinburgh

I have worked for my employer for over 20yrs and really enjoyed my job, more than a few years ago my problems started with one particular colleague, snide remarks, questioning my performance etc etc you name it i was a subject of it. I tried everything suggested on this thread nothing worked she didnot/couldnot see what she was doing, this has affected my mental health to the point i went down the formal route, big investigation, she and her cronies have got away with it, i ended being moved as it was easier to keep the "bullies" together!! I am the one who has had to adjust to new dept, colleagues etc which has been and still is very hard, so much so that my user name says it all but it's not possible. She/they still make remarks about me and i ignore them and have as little contact with them as possible which leaves me isolated in my area of work, they have not stopped but have now moved onto someone else.........
cracking_up i know exactly what you are going through and how you may be feeling, you did what you felt was right at the time, i put up with it for far too long in the hope things would improve and it has changed me, and not entirely for the better.0 -

I think this happens so often at work that you really do have to shrug it off and move on. You have to work with these people remember, nothing is going to be solved by 'running to mum' everytime someone makes a snide remark - hell, we all have off days - although if it is a campaign of abuse and you've been repeatedly singled out for no reason I totally agree that a complaint should be lodged.0
