Trouble at mill!

My wifes car insurance expires on the 13th Oct and renews on the 14th Oct, the car tax expires on the 31st. I tried to renew the tax over the phone with their wizzy auto renewal system but the robot told me there was no insurance in the DVLA database. We have a valid Insurance certificate for now and a valid certificate for the renewal.

On ringing the co-op insurance we confirmed that the car was insured and all payments up to date. They have said they will put it right but it will take up to two weeks

My Question is this. Can the Police stop us and take our car away for having no Insurance for what is a adminstrative error by the co-op?

My Brother in laws car has already been crushed (which was lawful) I don't want to add to it ;)

You possibly run the risk of being stopped, but they won't take the car.

Simply tell the police you are insured, and who with, and a quick phone call by them roadside will confirm matters :)

Of course, carrying your insurance certificate would be good ... but not absolutely necessary and a phone call may still be necessary to confirm cover is still valid.

They could take it yes and it would be lawful to do so, as only a suspicion of no insurance is required under Section 165. However if you are reasonable when stopped the chances are very low.

Who would the police ring at 4am on a Sunday morning?:rotfl:

The data base will be correct. It currently will have the details of your current policy (valid till 13/10).

(This is no good for renewing your tax, as they check that you have insurance valid for the day the tax comes into force - 1/11/09)

Try doing your tax on line after a couple of days and the database should have your new insurance details as they will then be in force.

It should be on the database within 7 days and most are within 24 hours. If you're going to use it out of office hours carry the insurance certificate and bank statements to verify the CO-OP are still taking their monthly payment.
