electricity company

Hi, having discovered today that my energy company put my meter in wrong so that my economy 7 was my day time tariff and my day time tariff was my economy 7 they are saying that I am liable. Has anybody else been in that situation and what did you do about it.

I had one of my customers with a bill that was like this. I was looking to see why their bill was through the roof, since the meter had been changed. The meter had simply been read "swopped over" as it where since being replaced. It took a while, but the company refunded them the several hundred pounds overcharge.

    Welcome to the forum.

Has been reported several times on MSE.

As stated in post above a refund is paid when the error has disadvantaged the customer, and vice versa the customer is liable when the mistake has been in his favour.

However, a firm will normally reduce the outstanding sum as a goodwill gesture(if you make enough fuss) and give you time to pay back any outstanding debit balance.
