I have a seperate supplier for my gas and would like to have 1 company do both so I can get the duel fuel allowence. In total my gas and electricity are costing me 168.00 per month which I think is steep I live in a 3 bed semi. Can anyone help what can I do?

You don't usually need to change your meter to change supplier.

The only issue is if you currently have an odd tariff, like E10. That may make things more complicated as most electricity suppliers won't take these on.

If this is the case & you want to put both supplies with the same supplier, why not switch the gas supplier to your electricity supplier? :)
May not be the cheapest option, but then dual fuel may not be either.

Edit: Or do you mean you have a pre-payment electric meter and you want a credit meter so you receive bills instead?
Switching to a credit meter depends on whether the supplier is prepared to extend credit to you. Perhaps you could talk your current gas provider into changing the meter as part of the deal they get the electric business too?

    Hiya

What type of meter do you have for your elect? Is it a pre-payment meter or is it a standard meter? Have you spoken to your supplier to find out why they wont change your meter?

If you need any further info, give me a shout!!

Hi sophie lavender - It seems that a previous occupier has put in gas heating and not bothered to to inform the electricity supplier, which means you are paying a premium price for Daytime Electricity but are not using anything on the cheap overnight rate.
If this is the case write to Elec supplier pointing out the change and demand that they put you on the Standard Sinlge meter tariff
The Dual Fuel tariffs with thier discounts look good, but the key is what is the discount off?
At the present time, with a steady trawl thro' all the tariffs, you get get single supply prices for both Elec & Gas that when added together, run rings around the cost of many Dual Fuel packages

£168 is a lot to spend (even if the prices are expensive.) How much are you using in units or kWhs? How much have you been using over summer?

When you say you have a three bedroom home do you mean you are heating all the rooms? Is there a reason for needing to keep more than one room cosy?

Unless you are still with your legacy regional suppliers the single supplier saving on a £168 spend will be very small (as Dogshome has mentioned.)

But do clarify for us what kind of electricity meter you have.

I think its quite clear the OP has a prepayment electric meter but a quarterly gas meter. She wants a quarterly electric meter but her supplier won't fit one even though she has a good credit rating.
I suggest Sophie, that you aopproach your gas supplier to see if they will change the prepaymnet electric meter to a quarterly one. If they won't approach a different company again. It has been suggested in another thread that Southern may well be prepared to change you over to a quarterly electric meter
