I might try that t-shirt thing. I've got mine on cotton stuffing at the moment because it's so cold, they've got it bundled up into a tissue box. All I can see is a row of little curved backs

buttercuplch, be careful with that raw egg. AFAIK the yolk's okay, but raw egg white can cause a deficiency in biotin (vitamin B7)...
I just looked that up to check (couldn't remember which vitamin it was
) and the yolk contains tonnes of biotin so it wouldn't be a problem, as long as they eat the yolk as well. The main symptom of biotin deficiency is dermatitis/eczema so if you haven't noticed any flaky/itchy skin problems I wouldn't worry about it. Thought I should mention it just in case. :coffee:Coffee +3 Dexterity +3 Willpower -1 Ability to Sleep

I used to use shredded paper. Cost me nothing apart from the first cost of the shredder. I even got snobby and preferred cross shredded paper rather than the huge long pieces because they could collect it, carry it around and put it in their beds. I did use bio catlet for the corner litter trays. However I've had 18 different rats over the years and found the odd one or two who just loved to post bits of the cross shredded paper through the bars. I had one called Mysty who would spend hours doing that.
I used to also buy the odd Tesco value box of tissues and open it slightly for them. They had great fun taking the tissues out one by one and either shredding them or taking them to their bed.
oh they always had a couple of hammocks as well to give them options0
