Car service question

I've just had a call to say my car is due its 3 year service on 28th October, but I am due voluntarily terminate the HP on this car the first week of November so really dont want to spend £200+ on getting it serviced.

I just wondered what the law was regarding this, am I legal to drive the car if the service hasn't been done by that specific date?

Thanks for your help!

Clare

You can legally drive the car.

The finance company may take a dim view of you not maintaining it according to the required schedule when you terminate.

Can you not terminate on 27 October?

It's legal to drive without a service. It is not legal to drive without an MOT and once a car is 3 years old, it will need one. I would also read your HP agreement before you miss a service as this might be part of the contract, but that will vary from company to company.

Thanks for your answers - I had it MOT's last week so thats not a problems.

I'm waiting for the HP people to get back to me as to whether they will accept it without a service or not.

    Fingers crossed!
  • They are bound to say no as it will effect resale!

Hand it back BEFORE the due date

Obviously if I could I would!! I'm arguing with Ford at the moment cause they told me my new car would be ready first week of November but now they've backtracked to 21st.

Sadly I cannot go 3 weeks without a car. I am not happy with Ford and am trying to get them to give me a hire car so I can hand it back earlier!

    Will see what happens!
