Moving House
Options
Hi,
Hoping for some advice here, please.
I've recently moved to a new property, and contacted British Gas to move my service to the new address. Following some confused emails, the final status is that they tell me they can provide my gas at the new property, but it will take 6-8 weeks and they don't want the meter reading until after this time!
I'm a little confused. It appears that there is a current supplier - should I notify them now, and provide the meter reading? I'm worried that if I do this they will cut off their supply, leaving me without gas for 6-8 weeks.
If I don't notify them, surely there will be 6-8 weeks of usage, which will be under the old tenants account and name?
I thought it would be a switch that could be arrange very simply, but doesn't seem to be the case....
Thanks for your help
phil

You need to ascertain who supplies you at the new address
Contact them and tell them you have moved in and give them the meter readings that you took when you moved in - they will then bill you from this date / meter reading
The current supplier won't cut you off, they will just bill you from the day you moved in to the day that you switch to your preferred supplier0
