Hi everyone. Do you guys know which would have a better sound quality: encoding music in the standard way or using VBR (variable BitRate)? So if I am using the same format and bitrate (e.g. MP3 at 192BR) then is it better to use VBR or not?
Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????

I found that via http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=variable+bit+rate&meta=0 -
I use Musicmatch Jukebox and always use VBR, the only problem is that the files are bigger, but overall, better quality playback, which is what I want!I love my spell checker, it stops me making all sorts of stupid smelling mistakes. :doh:0

Using a variable bit rate is most likely the best way to go. You'll get a higher bit rate (more detail) during the more complex parts of a track.
If you want mp3's, uses the Lame encoder (look for v.397 beta) and encode using one of the inbuilt settings (like -V 1 or -V 2). Google for an app such as CDex.
I personally encode all my music using Ogg Vorbis, a free open source format that is seen to be popular among audiophiles and techies."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0
